This generator allows you to create questions that require students to give a single word or short phrase answer.

  • Enter a single keyword or a phrase in the Topic box. You can be as general or as specific as you like, but more details in this box will help create the exact questions you need.
  • If you have a PDF or a Word document which might suggest topics for the questions, you can upload it as guidance.
  • Select the cartridge you would like the generator to use when creating the result. Each cartridge typically covers a particular unit or topic of study from the book; you can select up to three cartridges at one time.
  • Set the number of questions you want to generate – we suggest allowing a few extras so that any that don’t meet your needs can be discarded.
  • Make the results appropriate for your class or group by choosing the learner age.
  • In ‘More about the learners’, if relevant, select one or more specific Learning Needs. If you select Specific Learning Difficulties, you will be able to expand on these in more detail.
  • Click Generate and wait a few moments.

If you like the result, you can Save Result (so you can come back to it later) and Export it.

If the result is not satisfactory you can amend the entered information and Regenerate, creating a new result. If the result was somewhat satisfactory and only small changes are needed, you can Refine the result in the text box.

Recommendation: Once you have the results in an editable form, go through them yourself checking for accuracy and rewriting or reformatting to meet your own needs.
